Emergency Preparedness:
What have you done to prepare for an emergency? Do you know what kinds of disasters are possible where you work, live, worship, and travel? The Boy Scout Motto says it best "BE PREPARED" The best way to prepare for a variety of possible emergencies is to take an ALL-HAZARDS APPROACH that prepares you for most anything. This can be put into two major categories, Stationary and Mobile with subcategories. This would include your material lists and items assembled for their designated use. Examples are food, water and other supplies for staying in your home and similar items in portable containers/backpacks for an evacuation or smaller sets for when you are traveling. You should also learn some very basic skills that can come in handy any time, for example, can you change a tire? Do you have the right emergency tools in your vehicle? Are you CPR & First Aid trained? Fire safety items working in your home? Don't forget to prepare your family by practicing drills, learning how to use equipment, and discussing what to do in various emergencies such as FIRE, TORNADO, SEVERE STORMS, FLOOD, RIOTS, TERRORIST ATTACKS, CHEMICAL SPILLS, and other emergencies. Your response may be generally the same in either a terrorist attack or a severe storm--secure your family indoors or possibly evacuate. The emergency preparations work well for both possibilities. Learn how to prepare younger kids too.

- Eddie Eagle Gun Safety: Like guns or not, at least 1/2 of homes have them and education is the best way to prevent tragedies. Millions of us grew up around firearms without any problem. For teaching young kids the dangers of firearms. STOP, DON'T TOUCH, LEAVE THE AREA & TELL AN ADULT! This lesson should be reinforced constantly for young kids. As they get older they need to learn about safe and responsible handling of firearms.
